Our choices has a major impact on our lives. When we choose correctly our bad choices from the past will be forgiven, our hearts will be filled with His glory, with peace, love and hope.  We will be strong, courageous and fruitfull.

Today I want to talk about some of the benefits we will receive when we choose God’s truth in our hearts

Our previous sessions on the heart looked at:

  • God knows your heart
  • Clean up your heart
  • Drink from the right cup
  • Have a lean, not a fat heart
  • Protect your heart from being hard
  • Freedom in slavery
  • Lies leads to doubt and truth leads to faith
  • The Spirit is God’s promise to you.

Heb 4:12

For the word of God is loving and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

In the previous sessions, I spent a lot of time looking at hearts that are going wrong, the one side of the sword, but the other side of the sword is as powerful and show what pure hearts are capable of, then we can have good appearances in the heart as we read in

2 Cor 5:12

We are not commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart.

We can be proud of each other if we are able to discern good hearts in-between the good appearances of others.

Good choices will lead to rest, peace and hope.

Jesus said:

Mat 11:29

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.”

So many times we are trying to be humble in our hearts, but we come at it from the wrong angle.  Working on humbleness is hard work.  I think when your heart is aligned to God’s, when you take His yoke upon you, things like humbleness comes a lot easier, it will start to naturally flow from you.

Col 3:15-16

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful. Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

2Thes 3:5

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

I wondered what this is: Christ’s perseverance?  And the words which describes it are: Into the patient waiting for Christ, Endurance, steadfastness.  A remaining behind. A patient enduring. Unswerved in loyalty.

When your heart is directed towards God, you will be patient waiting for the day that Christ will come back, we will stay loyal to the gospel and stay steadfast in our determination to follow the one, true God.

Acts 2:25, 26 quoted Ps 16:8-11

David says about Him;

“I saw the Lord always before me;

Because He is at my right hand,

I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices,

My body also will life in hope.”

We need to have God before us, leading us towards hope. So many times I run ahead and expect God to follow, which causes me anxiety.  But to follow His lead, day by day, gives more peace and hope than I can ever get from anywhere else.

 

 

 

 

Eph 1:18

I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.

Your heart will be strengthened by your good choice

Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians

Eph 3: 16-18

I pray that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all saints, to comprehend the length and width and depth of His love.

I see a picture of a tree in front of me.  A tree with roots going deep underground in love.  We cannot see a tree’s roots, in the same way we cannot see someone’s heart.  If your heart is rooted and grounded in love, you will be strengthened with power through His Spirit.  It is like the Spirit is the trunk of the tree, the inner being that gives the tree strength and the foliage of the tree is where you can see how powerful the tree is – powerful to cast a shade, to bear fruit. 

2 Thes 2:16-17

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and deed.

I’m starting to see the picture the Bible is painting of how a free heart looks like.

2 Cor 4:6

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” make His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

1 Cor 2: 9  (Isa 64:4)

Rather, as it is written:

“No eye has seen

No ear has heard

No heart has imagined

What God has prepared for those who love Him.”

We cannot think we know God in all His totality. We will be foolish if we do so. Here and there we get glimpses of who God is. Some of the things we see, we feel is too good to be true. What we hear could be contradictory to what we see and our hearts imagine what we want it to be or look like.   We get glimpse from the Bible here and there, but we still do not fully know.

Final thoughts

Good choices will lead to rest, peace and hope.

Humbleness follows a heart aligned to that of God.

We must be patiently waiting for the day of Christ’s coming

Joyfull peace in your heart comes from allowing God to lead .

A heart rooted in love, strengthened by the Spirit, will be strong and fruitful

It is impossible to know God in His full totality, we only get glimpses of who He truly is.
