Previously I talked about the mind and how to free your mind from temptations.  Some of the things I have already covered are:

  • What you think Success should look like
  • How the heart and mind influences one another.
  • What it means to renew your mind.
  • How a mind looks like that needs renewing.
  • Repenting asks from us to change our mind
  • Use your mind to understand and think in a sober way.
  • Understand God’s mysteries and remember Scriptures

This week I will look at the fruit of a renewed mind.

A renewed mind is brave:

2 Thes 2:2

That you don’t be soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, or by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Real courage and bravery is to stare the enemy in the eye and not be shaken.  A very difficult thing to do. We can only do that if we have Christ foremost in our minds.

A renewed mind does not judge:

Rom 14:1

As for the man who is a weak believer, welcome him, but don’t criticize his opinions or pass judgement on his scruples or perplex him with discussions.

Rom 14:5

One man regards a certain day above others, while someone else consider every day alike.  Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

We spend too much time in life arguing about the small differences we have, forgetting the amazing truths that we agree on.

A renewed mind is humble:

Paul gives a hymn of praise from Isa 40:13 in his letter to the Romans.  He knows that no matter how much we use our minds, he still stands humble towards God’s knowledge

Rom 11:34 (as seen in Isa 40:13)

Who has known the mind of the Lord?  Or who has been His counsellor?”

1 Cor 2:14-16

The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, from the Spirit of God.  For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The Spiritual man judges all thing, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgement.

“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Again reference to Isa 40:3.

A renewed mind is in unity with others:

1 Tim 2:8

I desire therefore that in every place men should pray, without anger or quarrelling or resentment or doubt in their minds, lifting up holy hands.

Why are so many people reluctant to raise up their hands?  I once discussed this with one of the people at work, a dynamic black man, some of you might know him, Rendani.  He said he realized that he will raise his arms and scream out during a soccer or rugby match when he got excited without flinching or overthinking it, it was the most natural thing to do.  And he started to question why he never did it at church when he gets excited about God.  Is that Authentic?  He realized it is a natural thing to do to raise his hand and scream out now and then and he started to do so when the message of God gets him excited, it was very liberating.  Why are we different in the world than in church?   I must say I also find it liberating to do with my hands what I feel like during church, forgetting those around me and what thy might be thinking. I am authentic to myself and I act naturally.

A renewed mind is full of wonder

The Greek word Ekstatis is used a few times, describing wonder, amazement, even bewilderment.

Peter made a lame man walk

Acts 3:10

And they recognized him as the man who usually sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement over what had occurred to him.

Mark 5:42

And instantly the girl got up and started walking around – for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcame by amazement.

Mark 16:8

Then they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and bewilderment and consternation had seized them. And they said nothing about it to anyone, for they were held by alarm and fear.

Luk 5:26

And overwhelming astonishment and ecstasy, seized them all, and they recognized and praised and thanked God; and they were filled with and controlled by reverential fear and kept saying. We have seen wonderful and strange an incredible and unthinkable things today.

We can be filled with ecstasy for our God. His workings is beyond our human thinking and it is amazing.
