Are you as excited as I am to discover new meaning for the blood of Christ.  I am in awe and I don’t even think I have uncovered half of it!  God is greater than we can imagine!  We have covered the red and white blood cells.  Today I am talking about the platelets, vitamins and minerals in blood.

Platelets are another crucial ingredient in our blood, they are the repair men.  Without platelets we will bleed to death for something as simple as a finger cut.  The main function of platelets are to plug small holes and to stop the bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries.  There are three stages for the work they done:,

  • first is adhesion (the ability to stick and adhere to the sides of vessel where the injury took place),
  • second is changing shape, they turn on receptors activations and
  • thirdly is connections through receptor bridges aggregation

When you cut yourself, you open up the flesh and rupture a blood vessel, now there is an opening – an opening for blood to move out and for germs to move in. As I mentioned last week, there are constantly germs on the lookout to enter our skins. Our skins does an amazingly job protecting us from these germs. If these germs are able to enter our bloodstream, the river of blood can transport them to the rest of the body, giving access to all your cells and vital organs. I am so glad I don’t have to be paranoid about this – our body is put together in an amazing way – protecting me and fighting for me.

When this protective skin layer is opened, there are a second backup meganism of protection – blood. Not only the the role the white blood cells play, but also the role of the platelets.  I like to call the White blood cells the Army of Angels and I like to call platelets are the Healers, the Doctors in the blood.

In the same way on a spiritual level, Satan’s helpers are ever present, looking for an opening into our bodies – they will take the smallest gap possible. If we don’t heal wounds in our hearts properly – they have a permanent open door, we need it close up immediately with the blood of Christ – not a temporary plaster like wearing a mask or anything superficial.

This is when the platelets in our blood comes to the rescue – they are the repairmen, sacrificing themselves, transforming to become new skin, a new barrier, a new boundary.

Platelets goes through 3 stages: Adhesion, Coagulation and Aggregation (Stick, change shape, build bridges).   Maybe we need to do the same in life with emotional/spiritual hurts:  Stick to the Word of God, Change the shape of your thinking, and build new ways of thinking and believing.

The first role of Platelets are to adhere to current flesh. If your body is part of the Body of Christ, you don’t want anything to adhere to your body, you want the same quality flesh to grow in the opening.  This is evident in an organ transplant, the organ are susceptible to rejection. Blood rejects foreign “body”. This new organ is not mine, it is not part of my body, it is an invader – get rid of it!. The same way God’s blood protects our bodies from things that is not part of it and healing happens from the inside out – healing starts at the blood – the platelets.  We will get that in the Word of God.

Prov 4: 20-22 My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the centre of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

The second role of platelets are to coagulate. Coagulation is where blood changes from a liquid state to a solid seal.  This reminds me that spiritually we need to seal all our wounds, hurts, with the seal of Christ, the seal of the blood.  When you have experienced any emotional or spiritual hurt in your heart, you are vulnerable, as your mind can go crazy with thoughts and ideas that are not real.  This creates and opening for the enemy to put so many strange thoughts, beliefs into our minds and we struggle to find joy – we need healing.  We need to change our thought.

Ps 41:4 I said, Lord, be merciful and gracious to me, heal my inner self, for I have sinned against you.

After the platelets adhered to the edges of the wound (they bring back unity, they are the bridge builders), they start to change shape and turn on their receptors.  You cannot bring back unity and build bridges in your church, family, community if you are not willing to change shape (the shape of your thoughts), but only the Blood of Christ can help you change shape.  The platelets then start to bridge the gap, closing it, connecting the different sides to each other.

Ps 147:3 He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds (curing the pains and their sorrows)

Prov 16:24 Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body.

Here is more healing bible verses to meditate on:

Jer 7:14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed, save me and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.

Ex 15:26 Saying, if you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord Your God and will do what is right in His sight, and will listen to and obey His commandments and keep all His statues, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.

2 Cron 36:16 But they kept mocking the messengers of God and despising His words and scoffing at His prophets till the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, till there was no remedy or healing.

Ps 103:3 Who forgives (any one of) all your iniquities, Who heals (each one of) all your diseases

Mark 3:10  For He had healed so many that all who had distressing bodily diseases kept falling upon Him and pressing upon Him in order that they might touch Him.

Mark 5:34 And He said to her, Daughter your faith (your trust and confidence in Me, springing from faith in God) has restored you to health. Go in (into) peace and be continually healed and freed from your [distressing bodily] disease.

Mark 10:52 And Jesus said to him, Go your way; your faith has healed you. And at once he received his sight and accompanied Jesus on the road.

Luke 6:19 And all the multitudes were seeking to touch Him, for healing power was all the while going forth from Him an curing them all [saving them from their severe illnesses or calamities]

Have faith in healing, in the platelets!!  The more faith you have, the more healing you will have.

Luke 8:46 But Jesus said. Someone did touch Me, for I perceived that [healing] power has gone forth from Me.

Luke 18:42 And Jesus said to him: Receive your sight! Your faith (your trust and confidence that spring from your faith in God) has healed you.

Now we can have a quick look at the vitamins and minerals in blood.  Vitamins and minerals comes from what you eat.  Your body has an amazing digestive system that takes what you eat, breaks it up and absorbs all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, starches, etc. that is required for you to sustain your body, be healthy and have energy to do what you have to do.  Your body can even take the small molecules after digestion and convert it into vitamins, enzymes, special proteins – anything you need.  The blood is the transport system, to take all this good, nutritious substances to the right places.   Without eating, the body will also not survive.  Our bodies needs “bread” (food) to survive, to have energy, to sustain the blood in making red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, etc. As blood is essential for human life, so is bread essential for human life.

Same in the spiritual sense:  The blood of Jesus is essential for human life, but so is the Bread (a symbol of the Body of Christ AND the Bible – the bread of life).  The Body/Bible/Word sustains us, it builds us up.  The blood of Jesus in us can only get stronger and more effective if it transports vitamins and minerals to the rest of the body by what we eat.  The more good food (bread) we eat, the more vitamins, minerals, proteins are available in the body to produce red and white blood cells.  The more we read the Bible, the more we are protected from sin and evil, the more life we have in our arteries.

Jesus broke the bread before he handed it over to His disciples to eat as representation of His body.  If you don’t break up the Bible and eat it, you cannot enjoy the sustenance it provides you.  His body had to be broken, so that it could be shared amongst all of us.

WHAT you eat is also critical.  You can eat unhealthy food.  That will cause the wrong pieces to be transported to the rest of your body.  Make sure you eat spiritual healthy food.  Measure what you eat (the messages you listen to, the music you listen to, the people around you) against the true Bread, the Bible.

Ps 41:3 The Lord will sustain, refresh and strengthen him on his bed of languishing; all his bed You (O Lord) will turn, change, and transform in his illness

After we are finished talking about the Blood, we can dive into more detail of the Bread, the body.
