We have discussed almost all the ingredients of blood by new, except the one ingredient that probably makes up the biggest volume of blood – water.  The significance of water is a very rich subject.

Let us start to look at the first aspect of water – Water gives life.  Some literature states that the human body (without illness or severe environmental circumstances) can survive without any food for 3 weeks, but will perish within 3 days if it does not take any water.  Water is essential for humans, animals and plants to survive, to have life.  Our blood transports water to all the cells in the body, to enable all the cells to live and function properly.

In the same way we need to water our spirit, we need to quench its thirst, only then will you be spiritually alive.  Our churches (the body of Christ) needs water to quench its thirst, otherwise it will wilt and die.

When there is no more water in your blood, you are dead. Remember that they knew Jesus was dead when they pierced His side and the water and blood came out separately?

John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came (flowed) out.

1 John 5:6 – This is he that came by water and blood, [even] Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Jesus came physically in water and blood and He died physically when His blood did not mix with the water any more.  Water in blood is life giving, without water in our blood we cannot live.

The same way we need the Blood of Jesus to be spiritually alive, it is eternal life giving.  Without Jesus’s Blood we cannot life a full, healthy and alive spiritual life.

1 John 5:7 So there are three witnesses in heaven ‘the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are One.

1 John 5:8 And there are three witnesses on the earth; the Spirit, the water and the blood, and these three agree [are in unison; their testimony coincides].

1 John 5:11 And this is that testimony (that evidence); God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His son.

From 1 John 5:8 we see in the spiritual realm on earth that the Spirit, water and blood agree.  Now we understand why water and blood must agree (be mixed), but in the same way it transports the Spirit into your whole being if you mix it with the blood and that is why in 1 John 5:11 we can have eternal life.

1John 5:12 He who possesses the Son has that life; he who does not possess the Son of God does not have that life.

The only way is through His Son, His Son has that life, and His Son’s Blood is the key to that life.

I get extra joy when I see the Old and New Testament talking to each other and support concepts.

In the Old Testament, there were a lot of rules around the slaughter of animals.  Why did they kill animals?  Because only blood could atone for their sins, it was the only path they had to forgiveness.  Again we see “the life of the flesh is in the blood”.  Here the flesh and the Spirit are connected.

Leviticus 17:11 – For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul.

See also Lev 17:14; Eze 16:6; Gen 9:4

Only flesh (via bleeding) can make atonement for our sins and our souls.  Why do we need atonement?  Because God HATES sin.

Hebrews 9:22 – And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

In the Old Testament, we get this word: “Netsach”, which means: the juice (of grapes), blood, strengths – brilliancy of colour, lifeblood. And it is used in Isa 63, where God voices His anger towards sin, His judgement over the Nations.

Isah 63:3 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my railment.

Isah 63:6 And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength on the earth.

When you tread wine, you stamp the grapes down with your feet, so that they burst open in preparation for making wine.  One stamp of your foot, can burst open many grapes at the same time, God is powerful, and He can destroy a lot of grapes with only one stamp of His foot.

Isa 63:3 and 6 looks like God’s anger towards humankind. It must make Him very angry if He wants to take their life/strength away in the form of blood – their lifeblood. God’s judgement is for our lifeblood.  Our lifeblood are sprinkled on His garments.

This made Jesus’s sacrifice for me so much more intense.  Only Jesus could pay the price and only He can restore our lifeblood, He is the final sacrifice and His flesh (as in Lev 17:11) in the blood made the final atonement for our sins, we don’t have to use animals any more every time.  It is done.  Jesus took that price and now we all can remember that we get lifeblood from Him.  Life for our spirit.

Jesus died on the cross.  God’s anger was killed on the cross.  Are your blood on His garments?  Have you used His mercy to atone for your sins? That is why we need to lay our own life down, our spirit life.  I learned more and more how to: “Let go, and let God”.  I need to die from myself.  I need to splatter my blood onto Jesus’s garments, as His life is better and more life-giving than my own.  And here I talk about my soul and spirit. My mind, my own will, there were sin creeps in.

Revelation 1:5 – And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness, [and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Hebrews 9:12-14 – Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption [for us].

This is where the song: “”At the cross”” started to make sense for me.  How can something that is red, wash something white.

At the cross,

at the cross,

I surrender my life,

I’m in awe of you,

I’m in awe of You.

Where Your Love ran red

and my sins washed white,

I owe all to You,

I owe all to You.

God’s love is winning over His anger.  His love flows through the cross, the final sacrifice, to give you and me a new life.

1 Peter 1:19 – But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Hebrews 13:12 – Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
Romans 5:9 – Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Revelation 5:9 – And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
1 Peter 1:2 – Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Matthew 26:28 – For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Hebrews 12:24 – And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than [that of] Abel.

Wow, this is the most amazing gift.  Maybe the book should stop here.  Is there anything more you want or need?  His Blood is amazing, it is life giving.  I don’t think in our lifetime we will ever be able to fully comprehend the price that was paid and the freedom, deliverance that we get so freely.  I found in life that very few people appreciate work I do for free.  Do we appreciate the blood enough?
